ABBA - The 50 year voyage

On April 6th 1974, at The Dome in Brighton, Agnetha, Benny, Bjorn and Frida – collectively known as ABBA – represented Sweden at the 19th Eurovision Song Contest. They were one of 17 countries taking part and with their song Waterloo they would not only win, they would change the Contest forever and supercharge their career.

For the next ten years or so, ABBA would dominate the charts around the world, ultimately selling 350 million records and notching up nine UK number 1s.

In ABBA - The 50 Year Voyage - Sir Tim Rice considers the ten pivotal moments in the story of the group including: the release of their first Greatest Hits album, the ground-breaking association with UNICEF that gave us the single Chiquitita in 1979, the first performance of Mamma Mia! in the West End in 1999, and the arrival of ABBA Voyage in London in 2022.

The programme will include interviews with ABBA, album tracks, live recordings and some of the key songs from their catalogue.

ABBA - The 50 Year Voyage - Monday 30th December at 9.00pm
