We're here - because you were there

Boom Radio teams up with Specsavers creative guru for new campaign

Boom Radio is launching its first ever ITV1 TV campaign in April - featuring a Boom listener telling her emotive story about attending a Beatles concert in 1963.

The ad has been masterminded by writer and creative director Graham Daldry, best known for inventing ’Should’ve gone to Specsavers’. He set up the in-house creative agency for Specsavers and was responsible for helping to make ‘Should’ve', one of the UK’s longest running advertising campaigns. Graham is currently Creative Director and founder at Skinny Cat Creative.

The work, centred on a 'We're here because you were there' theme, features stills and footage from the Beatles concert in Leeds in 1963, along with shots of Beatles fans from the same era. The listener relates fondly the importance of the occasion to her life: “Before the Beatles, my life was in black and white – after the Beatles, my life was colour”.

Boom Radio CEO Phil Riley commented: “With a total spend in excess of £500,000 and echoed across a range of TV channels, Out-of-Home and social media, this represents our biggest ever marketing campaign and a huge investment by Boom Radio - and is a testament to our belief that Boom means something special to its listeners, and that there are more out there whom we want to invite into our family”.

Boom Radio programme & marketing director, David Lloyd, said: "This is the tale of one Boom listener who got in touch with us - Sandy from Leeds - and we know her account will chime with so many lives. We are the one station which exists purely for baby boomers - built by baby boomers. We recognise our shared history".
